Mehbooba wins Anantnag by-poll by over 12,000 votes

Anantnag, June 25: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday gained the Anantnag by-election comfortably, defeating her nearest rival of the Congress by over 12,000 votes, even because the opposition cried foul and described her victory because the “murder of democracy“.

Mehbooba Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, who turned Chief Minister on April four, polled 17,700 votes whereas Congress’ Hilal Ahmad Shah managed solely 5,600 votes of the almost 28,500 votes polled on Wednesday amid a boycott known as by separatist politicians and militants.

Mehbooba Mufti‘s victory margin was double that of her father, the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who had in 2014 received by round 6,000 votes within the constituency.

The Congress’ Shah alleged discrepancies in some Digital Voting Machines (EVM) as they have been “not sealed correctly” and that postal ballots had been counted as “bogus votes”.

“They’ve modified the voting machines. This can be a murder of democracy. The election observers acted as useless wooden,” Shah advised .

Congress and National Conference supporters earlier created a ruckus contained in the counting corridor, Authorities Diploma School, Anantnag, by shouting anti-government slogans that briefly disrupted the vote rely.
