Now, Bhumi Pednekar is opening up about the professional trauma of releasing a project she describes as “incomplete.”An Incomplete Film Reaches TheatresIn a conversation with Mid-Day, Bhumi revealed the shocking reality behind the production. While the actors signed on for a full script, a staggering portion of the narrative never made it to the screen. According to the actress, the version audiences saw in theaters was missing nearly 35 percent of its intended footage.“The script that we read was complete, but a large part of it was never filmed. What released was an incomplete film. I wish I had known better — maybe if I was a part of the system, I could have manoeuvred things differently. I was in shock. I kept wondering what was happening because nothing like this had ever happened before. Eventually, I told myself this was a learning.”The decision to release the film despite the missing segments remains a “mystery” to the actress. She explained that while she was told the project had gone over budget and stretched too long, the sudden release caught her off guard.“We didn’t shoot about 35 percent of the film. I genuinely don’t know what happened. It’s still a mystery to me that I was suddenly told the film was being released. I was told it went over budget and stretched out too long. I don’t know where we as actors fit into that situation, because none of it happened because of us.”The Emotional Toll of a Box-Office DisasterThe fallout from the release was more than just a professional setback; it was an emotional crisis for the Bhakshak actress. With only 293 tickets sold on opening day, the film became a target for intense online trolling. Bhumi admitted that the period following the release was one of the darkest she has faced.“It was a very heartbreaking time in my life. I felt finished. I didn’t know how to recover from it.”Despite the film eventually gaining millions of views on YouTube due to morbid curiosity, Bhumi describes the situation as an unresolved “khichdi” in her head. She noted that the industry was still grappling with the post-pandemic landscape, making the decision-making process even more chaotic.
