Srinagar, Jan 8: The weather workplace here Tuesday forecast moderate to serious snowfall at several places in Jammu and Kashmir between Jan 8 and 10.
“A recent western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and contiguous areas is likely to have an effect on the state from Jan 8 to advisory, 2014 with its main activity Jan 9,” Met department director Sonam Lotus aforesaid in an advisory.
“Under the influence of this weather system, moderate to serious snow can occur at many places in Jammu and Kashmir divisions and some places in Ladakh region, notably in Zojila, Drass and Kargil hilly areas,” the official aforesaid.
Surface and air transport is also affected. Day temperatures may fall by 5 to 6 degrees Celsius|astronomer|uranologist|stargazer} and night temperatures might rise by 2 to a few degrees Celsius, the advisory said.
The western disturbance is an extra tropical storm that originates in the sea below whose influence rain or snow happens in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
